CLASSEN Group wins EIFEL Award

Sustainability made in the Eifel

Simmerath/Kaisersesch, January 29, 2024 - The pinnacle of sustainability is located in the heart of the Eifel. This is demonstrated by the large number of companies in the region that go above and beyond to promote environmentally friendly technologies and business. The EIFEL Award recognizes this commitment. The CLASSEN Group won in the sustainability category for its exceptional achievements for the environment and the region.

This year, the Eifel Future Initiative is presenting the EIFEL Award to companies that are particularly committed to sustainability. At the award ceremony, city councillor and host Dr. Tim Grüttemeier emphasized the high standard of the submissions: "This year's award honours companies that not only talk about sustainability, but are already actively on the way with concrete projects." For the nomination, the jury not only looked at future projects, but also gained an insight into ongoing construction measures, energy-saving initiatives and innovations in the companies.

Laying green ground for the future

The CLASSEN Group convinced the Future Initiative with its continuous commitment to a sustainable economy since its foundation and to this day. The family-run company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of laminate and designer flooring as well as wall tiles. There is a particular focus on environmentally friendly products. The self-developed material CERAMIN stands out®. It is made from used plastic products and is therefore 100 percent recyclable. CLASSEN deliberately avoids the use of harmful substances such as PVC or phthalates and instead relies on healthy alternatives. This is unique in this form in the flooring industry and was developed and produced in the Eifel region.

The CLASSEN Group has been based in the Eifel region for decades and has its headquarters in Kaisersesch. Last year, the company opened one of the largest photovoltaic systems in the region here. Covering an area of 35,000 m², the solar panels produce enough electricity on sunny days to run the entire production exclusively on green energy. As one of the most important local employers, the family business is committed to the region and supports the community financially and with land donations. The mayor of the Kaisersesch municipality, Albert Jung, and district councillor Thomas Basten therefore traveled to the award ceremony to personally congratulate the company on winning the award. The jury of the EIFEL Award was completely convinced by the CLASSEN Group's commitment to the region and its many efforts and innovations for more sustainability.

Sustainability is teamwork

Julie Quervel, Sustainability Officer at the CLASSEN Group, accepted the EIFEL Award at the awards ceremony on behalf of almost 2,000 employees: "All of us at CLASSEN are committed to a sustainable flooring industry that will continue to produce ecological and environmentally friendly innovations such as CERAMIN in the future. To this end, we are always on the lookout for skilled workers who want to play their part in the green transformation here in the Eifel region. We are proud of the work that the entire team has achieved and are honored to receive the EIFEL Award for these achievements." The award has since found its permanent place of honor in the entrance area of the company in Kaisersesch.
