Environmental Concept
A Powerstation as Profit centre
Ecology and economy cleverly combined - this was the aim of the CLASSEN Group during the planning stages of it's combined heat and power plant in 1997. The goal was to optimise the use of large quantities of waste wood dust and particles.
Because this material is a valuable and efficient fuel, the logical option was thermal recycling. The planning for the Power station was started in 1997 under the controll of the engineering company Peters in Dillenburg, which was a trend-setting concept for the industry and should provide the highest economic benefits.

The task was not simple.
A system with the maximum efficiency should be created, meaning that the energy recovery from the waste should also take into consideration and conform to all regulations and guidelines. In addition to this an annual run-time of at least 8,000 hours over many years was expected.

Another requirement was the heating of thermal oil for the production machinery and also heating of the plant with a total surface area of 80,000 m² , which has substantially different requirements in summer and winter. Finally as much electricity as possible and as much heat as needed should be produced.

Above all the budget made available should not be exceeded. On the 4th of December 1998, in record time, the planned and approved system was finally started. The system has been running now for five years. It has functioned flawlessly from start-up until today Only short-term shut downs for routine maintenance and repairs have been required.

The goals set out during the planning process have been achieved completely. Up to 16,000 tonnes of waste wood dust and particles per year are recycled in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner. Since start-up of the system in 1998 around 13 million kw per year have been produced, some of which has been sold back to the electricity companies.

Reimbursement for this is in accordance with national guidelines of the electricity suppliers. The majority of the thermal oil. Heating of the company premesis during the required period is also provided.
